In Los Angeles, there are nine commissions tasked with hearing planning and land use matters. The nine-member City Planning Commission (CPC) provides recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on land use policies and certain development projects. The Cultural Heritage Commission (CHC) oversees the designation and protection of local landmarks, among other responsibilities. The seven Area Planning Commissions (APCs) each represent a region of the City: North Valley, South Valley, West Los Angeles, Central, East Los Angeles, South Los Angeles, and Harbor. Each APC hears cases from its assigned geographic area that range from smaller-scale projects to project-related appeals. Each commission consists of City residents who were nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.
Read the rules and operating procedures that were adopted pursuant to the authority set forth in Charter Section 506 to assist the City Planning Commission in conducting City business. For more information, contact cpc@lacity.org.
