Los Angeles Armenian American Historic Context Statement

The Los Angeles Armenian American Historic Context Statement is a two-year project supported by Council District 2 to develop a context statement that would focus on ethnic and cultural themes for Armenian Americans in LA. The project, in collaboration with the University of Southern California (USC) Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies and Environmental Science Associates (ESA) will result in a historic context statement, a list of designated and known resources, and two Historic-Cultural Monument (HCM) nominations.

The Statement will create a framework for the identification and preservation of ethnic-cultural resources associated with the Armenian American experience in LA. The project strives to tell the story of LA’s Armenian American communities through key historical themes associated with political, social, and cultural practices and Armenian Americans institutions. The Statement will also identify individuals, groups, and organizations that played significant roles in LA’s Armenian American communities.

The resulting historic context statement will be published online on LA City Planning’s Historic Context Statements page.
